When I started The Coach in 2017, I didn’t realize I was doing Life Coaching. The default mode I was running on as a self-taught coach was primarily coming from a deep desire and a strong passion to help other people navigate their way through life. My hunger to understand myself and life’s designs began about 20 years ago and led me on to study with self-development legends like Bob Proctor, Brain Tracy, Jack Canfield, Jose Silva and Robin Sharma among others. I used many of their learnings in my life which helped me and my near and dear ones to experience moments of happiness and contentment as we traversed through life’s ups and downs.
Here is a quick FAQ regarding coaching. This encapsulates my 1:1 coaching methodology and it can also help you to decide if you would like to engage with a coach like me.
Q1. How do I know when I should seek a Life Coach ?
The first thing to be aware of, is that it’s okay to seek a coach at any point of time in your life. There is no age limit. You will be able to decide to seek a coach based on how you are doing in your inner world. Here are some possible scenarios:
- You are feeling stuck regarding:
- Events, people or circumstances in your personal or professional life or perhaps both.
- You are confused and are unable to take a decision.
- You are continuously doubting your abilities and lack the confidence to move forward.
- You are not at peace.
Can a life coach make it all go away and fix it?
Not really, a coach does not have a magic wand to wish it all away. What a coach can do, is to help you understand where they are coming from and help you to take your power back in your own hands. Self-awareness precedes change. Better awareness will help you to make better choices, which will give you better results. Awareness leads to transformation and you are the driver of your own car. A coach can only show you the direction, you have to drive your own car and keep your hands on the steering wheel steady during your onward journey.
Q2. I don’t really know what I want ?
It’s possible that you are feeling lost about the direction in which your life is headed. A coach can help you find purpose and meaning of your life depending on the phase of life you are in. This is mainly done in a goal setting exercise. When the destination is clear, finding the way to it becomes easier. Even in google maps you have to enter the destination; the route only appears then. You can’t really hit a target you cannot see.
Q3. Even if I sort out my life, I can’t change my circumstances or the people in my life, so what’s the point?
I get this question often, therefore it’s among the top 3. If you are addicted to a mind-set and a belief that you are not in control of your life and that other people and the universe is governing your life and making it miserable, you are currently in a victim mind-set. Complaining, making excuses and blaming other people for what’s happening to you is your way of life. Coaching can help you develop a mindset that is oriented towards you getting back into the driver’s seat. That’s where you belong. You are the captain of your own ship. Neuroplasticity tells us that our brain has the ability to change throughout an individual’s life.
Q4. How much time does it take to see change? How long do I have to keep coming for coaching sessions?
When you start walking on a path to lift your internal game, your outer world begins to realign pretty quickly. The results that you see, unfold right in front of your eyes, as they reflect your inner story. The choice is yours and the path is also yours. The deeper the desire to shift, the faster the results. Is it going to be easy? It depends on how you look at change in your life. When you join a Gym can you build up your stamina in just one session? Your body needs time to adapt to the new routine and slowly with repetition of the different exercises – you do begin to build a stronger body. Rewiring your brain is exactly the same process.
Science has given us enough evidence to suggest that it takes 66 days to wire in a new habit to multiply your productivity and yet it takes just 1 decision to change your life. When you practice thoughts that are focused on giving you what you want, neural pathways begin to fire together and eventually with time and repetition they do wire together.
Q5. All is well in my world. Can I still see a Coach?
With a positive and open mind-set, the possibilities are endless. Your emotional architecture is your gateway to building a life of happiness, abundance, creativity, agility and innovation. If you are crystal clear on your goal and have a clear and definitive plan on how to get to your goal, a coach can help you to streamline the process and teach you techniques to arrive at your goal with a speed which allows you to keep a work life balance.
If you have achieved your goals and are thinking - Now What? What’s next? I have been there and done that and still I am not happy? A coach can work with your mind-set to help you to align it to finding the next best thing that can give you happiness and lead a life of happiness and peace.
My hope for you and all people is that when you are ready, you reach out to a coach.
